Japanese in Karate 10 "Kihon"

(10)ללמוד מילים ביפנית שמשתמשים באימון קראטה

“Kihon”

Now the training! Trainings or practice of all kinds of martial arts are called “Keiko”. I guess this word is not being used much in other countries though.

After the warming up, the training usually starts with “Kihon”.
“Kihon” means basic. So “kihon” in the training is the basic training. In Japan it’s called “kihon geiko” (“keido” and “geiko” are the same words. When “keiko” comes after other noun, it changes to “geiko”)
The normal “Kihon” training is to do(repeat) all the techniques of the following movements without opponents. I will explain the names of the stances later.
1.       Tsuki
2.       Uke
3.       Keri
“Tsuki” means ‘thrust’.  In karate, “tsuki” is the punch techniques.

“Uke” means ‘receiving’. You do “uke” to receive a technique. In karate, “uke” is the blockings.

“Keri” means ‘kicking’. So in karate, “keri” is the kick techniques.

The word ‘technique’ is “waza” in Japanese. These ‘basic techniques’ are called ”Kihon waza”.

Japanese people put the highest importance on “Kihon” not only in karate training but in everything.
